Maatregelen

On Sunday 15 March, the government took additional measures to deal with coronavirus. Schools and nurseries are now closed up to and including Monday 6 April. The same applies to cafés, bars and restaurants, as well as sports and fitness clubs.

Measures

Bruno Bruins, the Minister for Medical Care, and Arie Slob, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Media, explained the measures (based on advice from the National Institute for Public Health and Environmental Protection) during a press conference.

The measures are:

  • Schools and nurseries will be closed from Monday 16 March up to and including Monday 6 April. These are primary, secondary, and secondary vocational education schools (MBO).
  • For children of parents working in, for example, the care sector, police, public transport and fire brigade, care services will be provided in schools and nurseries, so that their parents can continue to work. This care service will not involve extra costs. Click here for a list of these professions (in Dutch).
  • Teachers will organise remote lessons for children at home, with priority being given to pupils studying for their final exams in secondary education and MBO.
  • All cafés, bars and restaurants and other catering establishments will be closed from Sunday 15 March 6 p.m. up to and including Monday 6 April.
  • Sports and fitness clubs, saunas, sex clubs and cannabis coffee shops will be closed from Sunday 15 March 6 p.m. up to and including Monday 6 April.
  • Everyone in the Netherlands is being asked to keep a distance from others of 1.5 metres where possible. Also, for example, when shopping.
  • All measures already introduced will be extended up to and including Monday 6 April.
