Thuiszorg Hotel Coronacentrum Urmond in stand-by modus
Het aantal nieuwe coronapatiënten in Zuid-Limburg begint langzaam af te nemen. Dat is ook te merken in het Thuiszorg Hotel van het Coronacentrum Urmond. Daarom wordt het Thuiszorg Hotel per 27 april aanstaande tijdelijk buiten gebruik gesteld. Maar alles blijft in gereedheid om weer patiënten op te nemen als dat nodig is. De huisartsenpost van het Coronacentrum Urmond blijft volledig in bedrijf.

De huidige patiënten (10) van het Thuiszorg Hotel kunnen naar verwachting deze week naar huis, of kunnen worden overgeplaatst naar andere zorginstellingen in Zuid-Limburg. Het personeel, afkomstig van Envida, MeanderGroep en Zuyderland, gaat weer binnen de eigen organisatie in de thuiszorg aan de slag. Indien nodig zijn zij snel weer inzetbaar voor het Thuiszorg Hotel.
Na 6 weken situatie opnieuw bekijken
De omvang van de corona epidemie in Zuid-Limburg wordt voortdurend gemonitord. Uiterlijk na 6 weken (eind mei) in de stand-by modus wordt de situatie opnieuw bekeken. Er is nu onvoldoende zicht op de ontwikkeling van de pandemie om een definitief besluit over het Thuiszorg Hotel te kunnen nemen. Op dit moment lijkt de druk die corona legt op de zorg wat af te nemen. Maar blijft dat zo? Onduidelijk is wat een mogelijke versoepeling van de maatregelen gaat betekenen voor het aantal corona-besmettingen en de druk op de zorg.
Extra capaciteit straks misschien nodig voor opstart reguliere zorg
Hoe zal het opstarten van de reguliere eerste lijn en ziekenhuiszorg verlopen? Mogelijk blijkt het Thuiszorg Hotel de komende weken toch weer nodig te zijn. Het opnieuw opstarten van de reguliere zorg wordt gezamenlijk afgestemd op Zuid-Limburgse schaal. “Zuid-Limburg kent al jaren een goede samenwerking in de zorg. Goed om te zien dat er nu ook samen zorgvuldig wordt gekeken naar de goede balans tussen de aanpak van de corona-crisis en de herstart van de uitgestelde reguliere zorg”, zegt Frank Klaassen, directeur publieke gezondheid van de GGD Zuid Limburg.
Stuurgroep-voorzitter Jack Jansen: ‘Daarom blijven we in de stand-by-modus in de komende weken, zodat we meteen kunnen herstarten als de situatie daar om vraagt. Wij zijn een zogeheten ‘on top of-voorziening’. De reguliere zorg kan de vraag op dit moment aan. Ik ben trots dat we in hele korte tijd met zoveel verschillende partners dit Thuiszorg Hotel hebben kunnen opzetten om voorbereid te
zijn. Dat heeft zijn functie gehad. En ik vind het daarom ook verantwoord dat we nu op ‘stand-by’ gaan’.
Passende zorg voor alle patiënten
Het coronavirus is een nieuw virus. Niemand weet hoe het zich precies zal gedragen. Aan het begin van de pandemie was de verwachting dat tienduizenden mensen in Zuid-Limburg ziek zouden worden. Een deel daarvan zou in het ziekenhuis opgenomen moeten worden en een deel zou IC-zorg nodig hebben. Vanuit Italië kwamen beelden van zorginstellingen die het werk niet aan konden. Dat wilden de zorginstellingen in Zuid-Limburg voorkomen. Medio maart werd besloten om het Coronacentrum Urmond op te zetten. Met een huisartsenpost voor corona-gerelateerde klachten en een Thuiszorg Hotel voor coronapatiënten die te ziek zijn om thuis te verblijven, maar die geen ziekenhuiszorg nodig hebben. Op 24 maart kwamen de eerste patiënten. Mede dankzij het Coronacentrum Urmond, het eerste coronacentrum van Nederland, heeft Zuid-Limburg tot nu toe alle coronapatiënten passende zorg kunnen bieden.

The current patients (10) at the Home Care Hotel are expected to be able to go home this week, or transferred to other care institutions in South Limburg. The staff, from Envida, MeanderGroep and Zuyderland, will start working in home care again within their own organisation. If necessary, they can be quickly deployed again for the Home Care Hotel.
Situation to be reviewed after six weeks
The extent of the coronavirus epidemic in South Limburg is continuously monitored. After six weeks in standby mode (end of May at the latest), the situation will be reviewed. There is now insufficient insight into the development of the pandemic to be able to make a final decision about the Home Care Hotel. At present, the pressure that coronavirus puts on the care system seems to be waning slightly. But will it stay that way? It is unclear what a possible relaxation of the measures will mean for the number of coronavirus infections and the pressure on care.
Extra capacity may be needed later to start up regular care
How will the start-up of the regular first-line and hospital care develop? It is possible that the Home Care Hotel will be needed again in the weeks ahead. The restart of regular care will be jointly coordinated at South Limburg level. "South Limburg has had successful cooperation in healthcare for years. It's good to see that together we are now looking carefully at the right balance between tackling the coronavirus crisis and restarting delayed regular care," says Frank Klaassen, director of public health at the GGD South Limburg.
Steering committee chair Jack Jansen: “That's why we will remain in standby mode in the coming weeks, so that we can restart immediately if the situation demands it. We are an 'on top off’ facility.” Regular care can handle the demand at present. I am proud that in a very short time we were able to set up this Home Care Hotel with so many different partners in order to be prepared.
It has served its purpose for the time being and I therefore consider it responsible that we are now switching to standby mode."
Appropriate care for all patients
Coronavirus is a new virus. Nobody knows how it will develop exactly. At the beginning of the pandemic, tens of thousands of people in South Limburg were expected to fall ill. Some of them would have to be hospitalised and some would need IC care. From Italy came images of care institutions that could not handle the work. That was what the care institutions in South Limburg wanted to avoid. In mid-March it was decided to set up the Corona Centre Urmond. With a GP service for coronavirus-related complaints and a Home Care Hotel for coronavirus patients who are too sick to stay at home, but who do not need hospital care. On 24 March, the first patients arrived. Partly thanks to Corona Centre Urmond, the first coronavirus centre in the Netherlands, South Limburg has so far been able to offer appropriate care to all coronavirus patients.
